Jr.
High Quiz Bowl is not just for the school "brainiacs," it is for anyone who
enjoys basic trivia. Tryouts are held every Fall Semester. The eight
top-scoring participants will be invited to participate on the team with
two more chosen as official scorekeepers and timers. When possible, we
schedule practice matches with neighboring schools after school.
Westside
Jr. High Quiz Bowl always competes in the District Tournament. If we do
well there and qualify, then we go to State Tournament. These tournaments
are always held during the Spring Semester and are sponsored by the
Arkansas Governor's Quiz Bowl Association. (A.G.Q.B.A).
As with every
extra curricular group, grades and discipline must be maintained to
participate. Because we are representing our school and community, we
always want to dress and act professionally when competing against other
schools. Good sportsmanship is required. Although we want to win, our
primary objective is simply to learn and HAVE FUN!
The A.G.Q.B.A. also
provides a summer camp for interested players. Although we recommend this
program, conflicting schedules do not allow for our own school sponsors to
always attend. Therefore, students will need to have transportation to and
from camp. (Reliable chaperones will be present on site.) For more
information about this summer camp, see either Ms. Best or Ms. McCloud.
The team practices during lunch and on certain dates after school. The Junior High Quiz Bowl members are as follows: Dylan B.,
Aaron C., Rachel C., Cody C., Brett C., Andrew M., Ryan S., and Jackson S.
Alternates include Phillip M. and Josh B.
